Euro Pool System processes its 600-millionth rotation

2009 was a historic year for Euro Pool System. The European market leader registered a record number of more than 600 million rotations, an ample 7% increase with regard to 2008. At the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin, Mr Clavel - Spanish supplier Iberiana’s CEO - symbolically handed the 600-millionth crate over to Mr Kai Hubert, Fruit and Vegetables Senior Purchaser of the German retailer Bartels-Langness B.V.

The increase in the number of rotations is due to a number of factors. Firstly, the use of Euro Pool System’s crates has grown significantly within the fruit and vegetable sector as well as in other fresh products industries. Secondly, an increasing number of European retailers are discovering the advantages of working with Euro Pool System. Mr Hubert from Bartels-Langness B.V. says that “Euro Pool System offers a series of advantages: a sustainable solution and a decrease in waste disposal costs. Besides, the crates are always available both nationally and internationally. That’s why we’ve been working with Euro Pool System for years. We’re truly pleased with such flexible cooperation.”

Considerable growth
Peter Willems, Euro Pool System‘s CEO thanked both organisations for their long-standing trust and looked back on peak year 2009. “In the six biggest European fruit and vegetable producing countries, we have an average market share of 41%. What’s more, our crates are ranked among the best in the market. These advantages have led us to achieve considerable growth, not only in the number of rotations, but also in the expansion of our European customer portfolio. Euro Pool System is proud of its results, particularly in light of the worldwide crisis.”

Saving costs in logistics Euro Pool System’s senior executive briefly went into the organisation’s plans for 2010 and after: “Our new strategy focuses on reducing the logistic costs in the fresh product supply chain through intensive cooperation with the retailer. For example, in the return logistics, which saves transport kilometres. This way, we work together to create a sustainable fresh product supply chain.”

Euro Pool System International B.V. is Europe’s biggest provider of logistic services in the area of multi-way packaging for fresh products. In cooperation with the European retailer sector, Euro Pool System focuses more and more on providing optimal logistic solutions. Euro Pool System employs 152 people in seven countries.
